Reviews

References to significant historical events (Medgar Evers’s assassination, the March on Washington) add authenticity and depth, while Addie’s frank, expertly modulated voice delivers an emotional wallop.

A Thousand Never Evers seems destined to become a bright star in the constellation of lovingly written favorite novels passed around among generations of readers.

I give this book my highest recommendation and predict that this will be a front runner for the Newbery Medal.

The Well-Read Child

A Thousand Never Evers is absolutely wonderful. A gripping read with poetry on each page. The descriptions and dialogue are so real, I found myself underlining passages consistently.

I loved reading
A Thousand Never Evers.... This book will be great for anyone who wants a good pool side read, but also wants a book that will make them think. An awesome book, A Thousand Never Evers is a one that will make a lasting impression on how you think about America's history.

Flamingnet Reviewer, Age 13

Full of references to actual events, like the Birmingham church bombing and Medger Evers murder, A Thousand Never Evers is impossible to put down…. This is definitely a book that middle school teachers should not miss. Kid-friendly historical fiction can be hard to come by, but this is the best of the best!
